Can you tell us more about the company where you are working and its objective?

A1 Macedonia is a telecommunications company and a member of the A1 Telekom Austria Group, a leading provider of communication and digital solutions. We operate in seven countries, serving around 24 million customers.

The rich experience I’ve gained in legal and compliance departments across both Macedonian and international companies has shaped my unique approach to work. I often say that compliance is the true art of law. Beyond in-depth legal knowledge, it requires analyzing processes across multiple sectors within a company. I’ve learned to understand different perspectives and needs, and by carefully examining the details, to create solutions that allow each legal entity to operate in full alignment with rules and regulations.

What challenges have you faced as a millennial woman working in your industry, and how have you overcome them?

Career development for a woman, regardless of the industry, often feels like running a hurdles race. Aside from workplace responsibilities, women, mothers, and wives carry domestic duties that can’t always be delegated. Some challenges stem from unrealistic societal expectations. Sleepless nights and calls from the kindergarten are just a few of the everyday hurdles women face.

That’s why having an understanding employer is essential to succeeding both professionally and personally. A happy mother and wife is also a fulfilled employee – someone who can meet deadlines, deliver quality work, and grow in her career. As a woman in today’s society, I fight battles on multiple fronts, and every victory, big or small, matters. We still have a long road ahead toward true equality, but I’m encouraged to see more men actively engaging in these conversations.

What competencies or skills do you believe are most valuable for millennial women in the workplace, and why?

Mentorship is key – particularly women mentoring other women, offering guidance and support in career growth. Equally important are enlightened female and male managers who understand a woman’s dual role of balancing professional and personal life. By creating tailored approaches and flexible workplaces, they become true agents of change.

In compliance specifically, constant monitoring of processes, keeping up with industry trends, and continuous skill development are essential. Flexibility and teamwork also play a big role in career progression, while leaving room for future collaboration.

How can millennial women continue to develop and refine their skills in the industry?

No matter the field, a daily habit of learning and an insatiable curiosity are the foundations of any successful professional. Networking and supporting each other further contribute to a positive work environment where goals are more easily achieved.

Intergenerational exchange is also vital. As millennials, we have a unique opportunity to learn solid values, professional ethics, and loyalty from previous generations, while gaining flexible approaches and tech-driven methods from those who come after us.

How do you think millennial women bring a unique perspective to the industry compared to previous generations?

While there are differences, my experience has taught me that any ambitious and dedicated woman leaves her mark in the time she lives in. Millennials have benefited from a more flexible work environment, which allows us to perform our roles whether we’re in the office, on site, or working from home. This adaptability is, I believe, a hallmark of our generation.

Ultimately, success depends on each person who is part of the chain. The shift toward flexibility in the workplace is, in many ways, a contribution of our generation of women.

How do you see the role of mentorship and support networks playing a part in the advancement and success of millennial women in the workplace?

Throughout my career, I’ve learned from remarkable women for whom mentorship came naturally and informally. They didn’t hand me ready-made solutions but reminded me through their own experiences that I was capable of finding my own.

Today, I’m glad to see mentorship being recognized, studied, and even formalized, as it plays a pivotal role in career growth. I welcome every opportunity to mentor someone, empowering both their personal and professional development.
